Is the Disney Vacation Club a good idea?

My family and I visit DIsneyland 2 or 3 times a year and stay 4-5 nights per trip... We always stay at the Grand Californian Hotel... The Vacation Club seems to be aimed at Disney World... Is it worth it for Disneyland? Is the Disney Vacation Club a good idea?
For you, the Vacation Club would probably be a good idea. For those who visit at least once a year, and always stay on Disney Property at the nicer hotels, the vacation club works out well.

It's a one time payment of roughly $18,000. That sounds insane at first, but you get 160 vacation points a year. That 160 points gets you a week at the nicest hotel in Disney World or Disneyland. In your case, this would be a week at the Grand Californian in a Deluxe Studio. Points change if you stay in different rooms, different resorts, or for a different amount of days. You could split points between trips, or save them up to use at other places around the world. You don't just have to stay at Disneyland. You could use your points in DisneyWorld, or at 500 other resorts around the world.

If each vacation costs $3000 for rooms, which is an average estimate for a week at a high end resort, than you'd have your vacation club paid off in 6 years. After that, you'd have a vacation week for life, with just mainenance fees each year. Those are $66 a month. Since you travel so much to Disney, this might be something for you to look into.

If you can afford the prices to pay for the points needed, it's great. However, it's really a luxury item. Personally, as much as I'd love to buy into it, I can't afford that right now.Is the Disney Vacation Club a good idea?
