Copper Mountain conditions - early January?

Considering a trip to Copper Mountain in the 1st or 2nd week of January. By that time, will they have enough snow to have all (or at least a majority) of their terrain open? It seems like they're getting a late start to the season out there this year...

Thanks!Copper Mountain conditions - early January?
That's hard to say at this point, but people have been predicting a dry winter this year. Of course last year by mid January we had already had three blizzards in the foothills. February and March are the prime months most years, but by January it should be at least pretty decent.
Amazing what a difference a season makes. Last December, we had two major snow storms and the skiing way great. This year, it seems things are off to slower start.

I've been skiing in Colorado for the last 23 years. The areas usually have good coverage in late December and January. Feb and March tend to be a bit better, as snow has had a longer time to accumulate. Copper has a lot of snow making capacity, so there will be plenty of intermediate and beginner runs open. Advanced runs should be OK too, but the double diamond runs definately need good snow to open. Worst case, I would say 80% open in January..best of course 100% which is entirely possible.

Are dogs allowed at 'Copper Mountain' resort?

The Resort does allow Pets, but the Ski Lodges and Condos do Not.

Hope this helps. Are dogs allowed at 'Copper Mountain' resort?
Don't even know where it is located. If it says no pets than no pets. Sorry have a nice trip
I'm sure if you look up the resort's information it should tell you some where if pets are allowed or not. If it doesn't then call the resort a head of time to check. Some dogs may be allowed (like smaller breeds) and others may not.Are dogs allowed at 'Copper Mountain' resort?

ive been to both and copper is by far more geared to the beginner skierIS WINTER PARK OR COPPER MOUNTAIN SKI RESORT MORE EnJOYABLE FOR A BEGINNING SKIIER?
I would suggest Copper Mountain for a beginner although they both have easy runs. There just seemed to be more flats for beginners at Copper in my opinion.
i have never been to copper mt. however i skied winter park last march and it was awesome as well as beautiful. i would recommend winter park to the beginner as well as the advanced skier.IS WINTER PARK OR COPPER MOUNTAIN SKI RESORT MORE EnJOYABLE FOR A BEGINNING SKIIER?
In my opinion, I think any winter park or ski resort is more enjoyable for a beginning skier just as much as it is enjoyable for an advanced skier and an experienced skier.
Copper Mountain is the best. Plenty of Mountain, great beginner runs. My wife was a beginner last year and she loved it. In fact they have a whole beginner side of the mountain.
My vote is Copper but Keystone is even better for new skiers and it is nearby.

Does anyone have any experience with Copper mountain, Colorado skiing?

Hi there! Assuming by the generality of your question, you're just asking about a vacationing experience.

I work there along with my brother, and roommate. They are both snowboard instructors, and I am a Lift Operator. It's a great little resort! Perfect for a family to visit, since it is not Vail associated, it is cheaper for a vacation. There's a plethora of places to stay, although, there is no where to exchange a time share (that I am aware of).

The mountain itself is divided naturally into the 3 levels of terrain. To the far east is the greens/ski school area, this area is usually closed til late December due to the lack of snow. It houses the best beginner lift, in Kokomo. In Center Village, the two featured lifts shine. The American Flyer, and the American Eagle. The American Eagle will take you to the most points on the mountain, while the Flyer will take you higher, eventually leading up to the back double black diamond bowls. (You take another lift to get to the bowls).

And off to the east is the Super Bee lift, which is home to the black diamonds of the resort.

The center village is a typical ski resort village, housing many shops and restaurants. There is also a tubing hill (which is awesome in my opinion) but it does not open usually until Christmas time because of the snow.

    My recommendations are these:

If you can go to Copper, GO! It is the "skier's favorite" mountain for a reason. I even recommend working there. Me and my brother went out there to work for one season, and ended up buying a house and staying! It's a lot of fun. Feel free to email me if you have any more questions! :)Does anyone have any experience with Copper mountain, Colorado skiing?

Whenever I go to Copper, I usually wear underarmour a t-shirt and a fleece under my shell jacket. I am usually very warm. Try to stay away from the wind by going on the east side of the mountain. The wind is the main thing that can make you cold.

I have 5 hours to ski while in Denver. Im debating between skiing in Loveland and Copper Mountain.?

Which should I choose? Loveland is an hour and ten minutes away and Copper Mountain is over an hour and a half away. Which is worth it? Loveland is also seven dollars cheaper.I have 5 hours to ski while in Denver. Im debating between skiing in Loveland and Copper Mountain.?
copper mountain is much futher away, about 45 minutes. it is also way more touristy. loveland is a smaller mountain, but thats ok. if you save seven dollars, then go to loveland. also, if you are goin on a saturday, LEAVE early. one time i left denver at 7 am and i got stuck in 6 hours of bumper to bumper traffic on my way to vail. also, consider winter park. winter park is owned by intrawest (who ownes copper) and it is closer to denver. it will probably have less traffic, too.
Copper is better, but given your time constraint I would go to loveland. I am sure that it takes more than 20 minutes to get from loveland to copper most days.

I've skied both and Loveland's biggest drawback it is windy, but it has been nice lately so I say loveland.I have 5 hours to ski while in Denver. Im debating between skiing in Loveland and Copper Mountain.?
    go loveland!!

i snoboad there all the time!

great snows, runs and pretty safe off trail

copper is too over priced and too many people

    hope it helps
Copper is only 20min from loveland not 45 but with only your limited amount of time I would say loveland is would be better. The only downside to loveland is that it gets realy windy so dress warm.
With only very limited time, a few thoughts:

First, no way you will get anywhere from Denver to any ski venue on the weekend in anything approaching an hour. Those times sound pretty optimistic for during the week under the best of circumstances.

If you aren't able to go during the week, you might want to consider Echo Mountain. It is more snowboarding and free style ski but is much closer to Denver, and the turnoffs are before the weekend traffic really starts to jam up.

Coppr is the best ski, however five hours is crunching it, Loveland is okay but to get the goos ski expeirence go Copper.,

How much does summer lift tickets cost at Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone?

We are vacationing in Colorado first week of August and want to take the lifts up for the views, just curious which place is cheapest or free. How much does summer lift tickets cost at Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone?
The mountains are great fun in the summer.

Some bad news first. Breck is pretty much closed this summer because they are renovating the base where the scenic rides would normally be. Usually there is a huge fun park, but minimal parts are open this summer.

Keystone is open though and rides are $12 for adults, $8 for kids, all are 2 for 1 with an adventure pass (you get these if you stay in a Keystone Resort).

Your best bet for everything about Keystone/Breck mountain is to go to snow.com, click on the mountain name and then 'summer' all the info about EVERYTHING is on here.

Copper Mountain is open this summer and also has a great fun park. Scenic rides there are only 10 for adults and kids are free with a paying adult. You can also add lunch for like $5. You can get an all day adventure pass which is $49 for regular people or 29 if you stay at a copper resort (resorts are really reasonable in the summer). The website for everything to do with cooper mountain is coppercolorado.com

There are usually wine, food, art and all kinds of festivals going on in breck, vail, beaver creek, copper, aspen etc.

Have fun and use the websites for info!!

Shuttles from Copper Mountain to Winter Park?

Hi, can somebody please tell me if there are shuttles that run from Copper Mountain to Winter Park. We will be staying in Copper Mountain and have a dual mountain pass for Copper/Winter Park and we're wondering what's the best way to travel between the two resort?Shuttles from Copper Mountain to Winter Park?
The best thing to do is rent a car in Frisco, Colorado and drive over. Hertz and Enterprise has offices there. It will take about 1 hour on clear roads to get to Winter Park.

There is no scheduled shuttle service that I know of or could find. However, there are shuttles you can privately hire from Winter Park. Check:

http://www.skiwinterpark.com/vacation_pl鈥?/a>Shuttles from Copper Mountain to Winter Park?
No shuttle that I know of.

Geographically, it does not make much sense. I would not want to be on a bus going up Berthoud Pass to get to WP.

The best way to go to WP is in a vehicle with 4-Wheel drive. Check to see if you can just rent a vehicle with All-Wheel or 4-Wheel drive. If there are no car rentals at Copper, try other towns in Summit county such as Frisco, Dillon or Silverthorne. Maybe Enterprise has an office there- They pick you up if you do not have transportation to take you to their facility.

There's a ski train that leaves from Union Station in Denver, but I'm not entirely sure where it goes! I know it goes to Winter Park, but maybe that's it?
Most college campuses have a "Posting Board" of some type in the student union. Posts for rides at breaks, etc. Look around and post for a ride to share up to Copper. As ski season picks up there will be plenty of chances, as long as you agree to pitch in for gas. May meet some neat new friends to go along with the experience

Any decent hotels near Copper Mountain, Colorado that don't require a two night stay?

We are having a hard time finding a decent place to stay that doesn't require a two night stay! Any suggestions? Any decent hotels near Copper Mountain, Colorado that don't require a two night stay?
i work at copper, and live in vail and leadvile (about 20 miles south of copper. ) in leadville, ther is a super 8 motel, and the delaware hotel, it is nice, however it is haunted. Frisco is about 7 minutes north of copper, just take east bound I70. you will probably drive past it on your way there. in frisco, ther are som hotels, but no fancy ones, same for silverthorne. in the mountains, the only fancy hotels are in the resorts, and are quited expensive. if you are on a budget i would reccomend silverthorne, frisco or leadville, depending on which way you are coming from, the hotels arent fancy, but they are decent, and you dont need a reservation.
I live in Denver and I've stayed a copper a number of times and I don't think any places require a 2 night stay. Go here to see Copper central reservation:

My recommendation is just barely outside of Georgia. It's Chattanooga, Tennessee. There is a very interesting aquarium that is quite different from the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. There are some neat places to eat downtown and I believe they have a rock that overlooks the whole city. I think its called Ruby Falls, but I could be wrong.Where in Georgia can I go for a great 3 day vacation with 2 small kids?
To keep a 5 year old entertained the other responder is right Chattanooga is your best bet its only 20 mins from Dalton, GA and boasts tons to due for the 5 year old and its a safe beautiful area. The riverwalk, storefronts, and aquarium is really good.

    A sundress would be nice.
Sundress (knee or tea length) as long as it is a semi casual affair. Something nice and bright. If it is black tie that's a whole different story.

Maybe a shawl in case it gets chilly at night.
A sundress or a cocktail dress. Either would be appropriate - the sundress because it is a garden setting, the cocktail because it is evening but outdoors. I wouldn't wear a full-length dress for an outdoor reception. A casual pantsuit would be fine %26amp; warm...but I'm personally not into that (perhaps you are older than me though...I'm in my 20s). I would take a wrap in case it gets cool in the evening.
Wear a nice bright and colorful sundress and bring a wrap or a cardigan.

When you reminisce, which childhood memory makes you most sentimental?

Mine is riding on the back of my dad's bicycle through the wonderful scenery of Callaway Gardens near Atlanta; delighting in the spring blooms of azalea bushes and dogwood trees !!!When you reminisce, which childhood memory makes you most sentimental?
When I lived in Europe,On a bike trailer thing that little kids can sit in. I remember the trees. It was autumn. It was so beatiful.
It was winter time and my older sister got us all dressed and took us ( 6 of us in all including her) to play with the snow. After, we can inside and she made us hot coco and put on a movie and watched it together. She was like our mom, when our mother wasn't.When you reminisce, which childhood memory makes you most sentimental?
Summer vacations spent in norther Michigan with my mom's cousins who had a creek running through their yard, especially the day we would spend at their trailer at the lake. Makes me really yearn to go turn back the clock!!
I am froma bygone era and my childhood was during the 2nd world war. There were shortages of everything ... more particularly food.Everything was rationed and limited.

My childhood memory is , still, of the bag , containing afew loaves of bread , that my mother would hang at a height , not reacheable by me and my siblings. We would stand near and the smell of the beard is still vivid in my memory. Those few pieces of beard , given then were the most tasty and cherished.

A small insignificant thing which these days the young never get to experience , teaces you humility, value system.
I remember smells. Not so much the people. Or the trips we took. A certain smell will help trigger that memory
I have 2 favorites. Once just before Christmas, my mother, brother and I went out for a drive around the neighborhood while my father stayed home, asleep on the couch. Our Christmas tree was up and decorated, but there were no presents under it yet. When we returned from the drive, lo and behold! Santa had come and delivered presents under the tree while my father was "asleep" on the couch.

Another one of my favorite childhood memories was my brother, father, and I used to make "carpet beds" on the rug in our den in front of the fireplace. We put spread a quilt on the rug and lay down on it, and often went to sleep in front of the fireplace, with the fire going. Then later we had to get up and go to bed.
Memories of moments with my mother who passed away years ago, particularly of her gently running her fingers through my hair so I would fall asleep.
there's this picture of me and my mom sitting on the end of our dock and she is whispering a secret in my ear. it reminds me of the first time i saw the ocean and how small and scared i felt, but at the same time it felt like anything was possible.

another is when in the steaming hot summer i had a bad dream about something so my dad took me outside and we sat on this swing behind our house and i fell asleep while we watched the sunrise. now whenever i'm sick i insist on sleeping outside, so weird!!
Living in the country as a child I had all of the outdoors to explore. Climbing trees, walking through the woods pretending to be on some great adventure. Playing with handmade boats of all descriptions in the stream that always seemed to magically appear just in time for spring. Imagining I was miles away from home, all by myself, when in fact my Mother could see me from the kitchen window. Always with my dog at my side; he would never let me stray too far. Staying up late with my Father on Saturday nights, struggling to stay awake long enough to watch the entire hockey game and never quite making it.

    Being a child...
Riding in the sled behind Dad in the snowmobile to go up into the mountains in Alaska when I was 4 to get a Christmas Tree at night with the Aurora Borealis shining and my dog.
if you mean by sentimental where i would most love to be, it was hiking through the woods with my dad to find a fishing hole and this one time finding a water dog and my dad saying that i should leave it so that it wouldn't die on the way to the house. I did not want to but I did because I thought my dad was always right..........he is 74 and so far I still think that.....
there isn't one specific memory, but basically any memory of the entire family getting together (uncles, aunts, cousins, grandparents, on and on) is a good memory
fresh caught fried catfish frying in the fryer....in the backyard eating cold watermelon....all my aunts, uncles, cousins over for a visit and we are playing on the swingset in just our underpants. We probably looked like hillbillies, but had a GREAT time
When I was 3 and dropped my pacifier down into the sewers a week after moving to Ottawa...

Gets me every time *dabs away tear*

Kidding. That did happen though, my brother fished it out with copper wire.

I dunno, there's no one memory and it's they're not very specific... like when I was (again) in Ottawa, there was a back area where there was paved walkways and fields and there was a tall mound where 3 trees stood (small, medium, and large), and when I finally felt ready to climb the large tree, I got to the top and I looked out and saw the ravine in one direction, the leaves all different colours from the fall, either on the tree of on the trail...

(of course my butt got stuck to the tree thanks to sap but if you ignore that there's more sentiment).

Then there was the Fathers Day where my dad said he wanted us all to go down biking together along the trails in Ottawa (I moved there when I was 3 and stayed there til I was 10). The smells of summer passed by, the colour vibrant, the blaring humid heat hitting us... it was a great day.

(just avoiding the fact I was so tired I was literally dragging my bike to the car by the end of it all, it's another sentimental memory).

Yep, with all my sentimental memories you have to forget something about it to work =)
I don't want to ruin your 'sentimentality party', but my worst childhood memory is the death of Marilyn Monroe. I vowed some day to avenge her death at the corrupt hands of Robert Kennedy. That's right, the so called "entitled and spoiled" brother of JFK...which brings me to my best childhood memory, which is helping Muslim Sirhan Sirhan to avenge Marilyn Monroe's honor. After that success, I was well on my way to becoming a Muslim myself !!!
the long summer days when my friend and i would go out to play from morning til dark in the wide open fields, the creek and one particular night we laid in the middle of a country road looking up at the stars wondering outloud what our lives were going to end up like one day...

funny how all we had was land, a barn or 2 and a lil body of water and we stayed (contently) busy all day and had to be forced to come in at night and now with all the "stuff" to do in the city kids complain of being bored all the time. :)
Iwould give a million dollars if I could have hugs from my late Grandma. God Bless her soul. I am 60 now and always hug my children and my grandson and hope that the love I felt from Nana is passed on to them.
Mine is my Father picking me up from nursery school in '77, he had a 74 camaro, he would put me on his lap as we drove down the PCH, the cliffs, the ocean the listening to Neil Diamond or Cat Stevens on the 8 track, turned all the way up.

HELP: I'm caught between work and family?

Its a family tradition that each friday before Christmas we go to Callaway Gardens for the night and leave in the morning. But This week I havent been able to work because I have been busy with other things.

I called my manager and theres a possibility I might lose my job because I barely have any hours in lately and I need to work, but I cant due to the family trip.

=\ confused...HELP: I'm caught between work and family?
Talk with your family about the situation and see how they'd feel about rescheduling it or with you not being there. would they rather you lose your job? It can sometimes be hard around the holidays schedule wise but unfortunately a lot of people nowadays are having to reschedule dinners or show up late because of prior work commitments. Hope it works out for you :)HELP: I'm caught between work and family?
Anything can be negotiated. It depends on the relationship between you and your manager.

    Lodging near Callaway Gardens?

My wife and I would like to go to Callaway Gardens for a few days this fall. (We have been before, but just for the day.) We like nature activities. We like to hike and ride our bicycles. We don't golf or play tennis. We don't need to be pampered, cuddled, or massaged. We like clean, quiet accomodations.

Question: would it be better just to pay the $175/night and stay on the property, or are there adequate reasonably-priced alternatives nearby? Aside from the admission charges, are there benefits to staying on the property? Thanks!Lodging near Callaway Gardens?

Is Callaway Gardens fun for teens?

My mom and sister are going to Callaway Gardens for a few days, and I'm invited to go. We have to go to Warm Springs first though, and some museums. Would it be more fun to just stay home? My mom doesn't want me complaining about being bored the whole time.Is Callaway Gardens fun for teens?
It depends on what you're going to do there. Here are a few ideas:

    1. They have a live bird show that lets you see actually birds of prey (like a bald eagle). If you like animals, make sure you watch this.

    2. They have an awesome network of paved bike trails. You can rent a bike there. It's good exercise and the scenergy is awesome.

    3. They have a narrow gage train that goes around in circles. If you like trains, make sure you ride this.

    4. They have a butterfly garden. This is a greenhouse where pretty butterflies are all over the place. If you like to take pictures, this is the place to do it.

    5. They sometimes have cool special events, like hot air balloon rides or fireworks.

    6. A few days might be too much for you though. I usually go for one afternoon a month. I really think you should go ahead and do it so you don't miss your chance and promise yourself not to complain if you do get bored the second day.
If you love the beauty of nature and outdoors, wildlife and the opportunity to simply "be", It's absolutely wonderful, one of the most gorgeous and tranquil settings I've ever seen. If you are a cell phone and electronic junkie that has to be tuned into something all the time to be turned on you'll hate it. No malls to visit. It's a great place if you can tear yourself away for 2 days and let this experience just happen to you.Is Callaway Gardens fun for teens?
I love it, but it depends on your interests. I enjoy natuure's beauty, so it is heaven on Earth for me. (It is the most beautiful place I've been, hands down) But if you're into nothing but cell phones and shopping, you may get bored. I urge you to enjoy nature's beauty at its fullest. Callaway is indeed a Garden of Eden.
No, I don't recommend it very much. The last time I was bored out of my mind! There are exhibits but they are somewhat boring.....especially the butterfly garden...

    I would bring some entertainment..

Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia, is a thoughtfully planned and lushly landscaped setting at the foothills of the Appalachians. Callaway Gardens is 60 minutes southwest of Atlanta and is open 365 days a year from 9 am to 5 pm. There is an admission charge.

On 14,000 acres, Callaway Gardens consists of many areas for reflection and recreation. A place to make hearts and wings flutter, the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center at Callaway Gardens is a glass-enclosed tropical conservatory for living butterflies that also hosts neo-tropical hummingbirds. Many couples travel to Pine Mountain, the actual town Callaway Gardens is located in, for weddings and honeymoons, sometimes combining a trip here with a stay in Atlanta.

A labor of love for conservationists Cason and Virginia Callaway, the couple bought up thousands of acres in the 1930s and began shaping and cultivating the environment. Thanks to their efforts, nature lovers have enjoyed Callaway Gardens since 1952, when it was opened to the public.

At Callaway Gardens there is also a woodland and display garden, the Callaway Brothers Azalea Bowl (40 acres devoted to azaleas and the world's largest collection), a resort, preserve, golf area, a Birds of Prey program, and much more.

Mr. Cason鈥檚 7.5-acre model Vegetable Garden at Callaway Gardens raises some 700 varieties of vegetables, fruits, and herbs. If it looks familiar, it is the location where PBS' "The Victory Garden" is filmed in Georgia.

  • Do you have any suggestions for a Callaway Gardens visit?

We would like to visit Callaway Gardens (Georgia) sometime this year. Does anyone have any suggestions (what you liked, what you didn't like, etc.) We don't golf or play tennis. Thanks!Do you have any suggestions for a Callaway Gardens visit?
Yes - a great place to visit. If you have kids, there are some fun things to mix in with the visit so it is not all about flowers. The butterfly house is great, and the various floral trails are all worth doing. None of them are dull or boring. Here are some things to do to add to your trip:

    1. Look in to staying at FDR state park in one of the cabins. I short 5 minute drive to the gates of Callaway, it is a less expensive place to stay, and the cabins are VERY fun. Fireplaces, clean, kitchens, and you get a great view. Here is the website:

    http://gastateparks.org/net/go/parks.asp鈥?/a>

    2. Go to Pine Mountain Animal Park. Very fun, even with just adults. You drive through and see wild animals who will come up to your car and you feed them. All kinds of animals - from the large to the small. One of the best things to do around there and very unusual %26amp; fun. Hint: rent their truck so you dont have a rhino or buffalo hit your car. A serious must do!

    http://www.animalsafari.com/

    3. Rent the bikes at Callaway. No better way to get around and see the park, and they are lots of fun! You can take them anywhere and it is the most popular way to get around, even if it is hot.

    4. Go to Westville since you will be close anyway. This is a 30 minute drive south to a town of 1850s GA homes, churches, businesses and farms. It is very worthwhile, inexpensive and cool. Think Little House on the Prarie, only better. People show you how they blacksmith, cook, live and work.

    http://www.westville.org/

    5. Inside Callaway, make sure to stop by the chapel in the forest area. Very cool. Take fruit in to the butterfly house (banannas) so the butterflies will land on you and give you some great pictures.

    HAVE FUN!
i went there yesterday! go to the discovery gift shop their rock candy's AWESOME and they make kids b quiet in the car (my sister and i....) butterfly garden, beach, picnic, veggie garden those r all tht i went 2...

Do you have any suggestions for a Callaway Gardens visit?
I have been to Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia. I had a wonderful visit and there is plenty to see and do there including Natural Trails, Recreation, a Butterfly Garden, and Special Events. My recommendation is to go on a weekday during the middle of the week (like Wednesday or a Thrusday) and go on a day when it does not rain because you will be able to see more of the gardens on a sunny day than on a rainy day. For more information, you can to to Callaway Gardens website at http://www.callawaygardens.com/Callaway.
As listed below, Callaway is a great destination just for the natural beauty. Their Festival of Lights at Christmas is also a great time.

Nearby - Warm Springs - FDR's Little White House

Americus - Habitat for Humanity HQ and Global Village

Plains - visit Maranatha Baptist Church and have President Jimmy Carter teach your Sunday School lesson

    Enjoy!
check www.callawaygardens.com. I like biking on all the paved trails thru the many acres of forest and gardens ...
Callaway Gardens is gorgeous! At certain times of the year they have a butterfly house where you can see butterflies up close. They rent bicycles, and of course the gardens themselves are fabulous. There is a chapel...cannot remember the name of it...but it is in the gardens and it is gorgeous! There is a very nice hotel across from the gardens with lots of great amenities...Callaway Garden Resort. A friend of mine was married there in October and it was the prettiest wedding I have ever been to.

Their is a great selection of things to do their my childs class went their on a feild trip and saw the birds of pray show and loved it. The butterfly room is fun too and i believe their is a nice trail to walk too. And also going in the fall is really beautiful

    Should I Quit my Job?

Before judging me, please read my entire question in full.

I got hired to be an Entertainment Host on Disney Cruise Lines way back in May 2010. They told me it would be a few months before they started me with my process of getting hired. Around July 2010 I passed the medical and criminal background check, and in August was emailed an official hiring letter saying my start date would be November 13, 2010.

Naturally this was exciting news- a cruise job where I would be at sea for 6 months in the Bahamas or Carribbean or European waters. I currently have a position as Corporate Faciliator at a Museum in my hometown, and have been there 4 years. I wrote a letter of resignation and turned in my notice to my boss.

Three weeks later in early September, my CEO Hiring Agency called and said they wanted to know if I was available October 20th, WAY before the original start date. I said yes, because I didn't want to look like I was difficult and wanted to be an agreeable new employee. I then went to my boss and told them I was being asked to start earlier, and If I could give them a new letter of resignation that had an earlier departure. My boss said that was fine, but to do it quickly as she had almost sent it to Human Resources to begin my termination papers. I gave her the new later, and took in a breath of relief.

Five days later the CEO company of Disney called me again, saying "We know we keep changing your date, but we feel you are one of the strongest candidates we hired- and want to know if you want to start on the new ship, Disney Dream, in Amsterdam on November 30th." I was excited, a bit disgruntled by yet ANOTHER start date change, and said Yes.

Now I'm in a dilemma. I can't go to my boss and ask for A THIRD time to give a new notice. I'm also worried that Disney could change my start date yet again. Problem is financially I can't afford to be out of work 4 weeks. Do I borrow money from my parents? They did say they were willing to help me out in the beginning, but I am 29 years old and don't feel like being a burden. On top of this, I have an apartment I now have to change the sublet on because my current person I told could sublet was given different dates.

    1) Do I quit my job and just borrow the money?

    2) Why does this keep happening with the date change? I am getting to the point of just telling Disney no thank you, as its an inconvenience for me every time they change the date. HOWEVER, its such a huge opportunity for me to make connection in my future entertainment career, I don't want to say no.

Please help!Should I Quit my Job?

Talk to your old boss again and ask to change your departure date to mid. November. You should be able to cash in any accrued vacation time anyway... so your last pay check is going to be larger than you anticipated.

If you do not have funds to cover you for a couple of weeks then it is high time to re-assess your financial habits. Working at the cruise ship will give you plenty opportunity to put a nice nest egg together.

Changes are the "norm" in the entertainment business and frankly, if you can't handle this then you will have a problem. Has nothing top do with Disney.... they are staffing their cruise ships and you are just one small cog in the big machine of Disney. Don't disappoint them and use the time to bring your stuff in order. This is not a 9 to 5 job.... you will be gone for 6 months at the time and should probably start reducing your household items that need to go in storage, etc. There is a good way to bring in extra funds... sell excess stuff.Should I quit my job?
    Okay.

I read your whole post. I will have to ask you some questions in order to give you any good advice at all.

Are you close with your small town employer? I am assuming this is sort of a small business. If you are, I am guessing that that employer will totally understand what is going on and be on your side. They can/will be flexible and can work with what is going on with your Disney situation. Often times employers don't hire a replacement right off the bat so they would be happy to keep you for a while and in fact may ask you to train your replacement.

About the apartment. Well you will have to judge that for yourself. If it is hard to get a sublet where you are, you better keep the person you have lined up and just move in with your folks. If it's easy to sublet, just talk with your prospective tenant and tell them what is going on. If no money has changed hands and you have not signed papers with them, you don't have a legally binding contract. If you did, you better vacate or pay the consequences.

I imagine that you will be fine, just a little inconvenienced for a couple of months. Don't panic and just plan out what you need to do to make it work, and then follow through. Hold tight and you will be fine.

If you need to add more info please do, and I will add more info here. Otherwise, Good luck!

  • God, Why did I get Fired?

Before judging me, please read my entire question and answer accordingly.

I got hired to be an Entertainment Host for Disney Cruise Lines. I was so excited! Finally, the beginning of a potential career. I even auditioned at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago for the opportunity, so you know it was major. They told me it would be a few months before they started getting me ready to fly out to Orlando and start working on the Disney Wonder.

Well, I auditioned in May 2010, and its now September 2010. Despite passing all the background and medical checks, I have yet to have an official embarkation date. Instead, I have gotten a few emails saying "We expect your date to be November...you may leave earlier...perhaps it will be in December..." Whoa, hold up! So now I don't have a date and I ******* quit my job. Yep, when they told me the November date, I put a two-week notice in at the job I work at now as a tour guide. So now I have no job and am waiting to leave for another one. Why didn't they give me a contract of when I would start and end? Why don't they have all the information? Every time people would ask me "So how long are you at sea?", all I could do was plainly say "I don't know."

Well I was fed up! I was tired of saying "I don't know." So I called the CEO of Hiring %26amp; Recruitment and asked "Excuse me, why haven't I gotten a actual start date yet?" The CEO tried to explain they can't know until other people's contracts were over, but I didn't listen. Instead, I cursed him out to high hell, and said "**** that! I want my ******* start date in the next two weeks or I will sue Disney." Well apparently that did it, and the CEO told me I was no longer eligible to work for the company. So I got fired before even starting.

Why did this happen? The position I got was a VERY sought after position. I would have been working in the Youth Activities department. There are 60 counselors, and only 5 Hosts. So I was getting paid better. Why did this happen? Sorry but after countless back and forth emails and almost 6 months of waiting, I deserved to get mad and curse him out. Can someone explain why this happened? Are cruise ships known for doing this and taking their time with employees just getting hired?God, Why did I get Fired?
It happened because you destroyed your chances!! Live with it and learn from it!!
Don't you understand? It's GODS WILL! :D:D He WANTS you to be poor and miserable! That's how he created you! :D It's your gift from God! :D:D Now shut the **** up and embrace God's gift or you will go to hell :D:DGod, Why did I get Fired?
http://diylegalinfo.com/lawsuit_Links.html has help on how to file a civila lawsuit, class action lawsuit, and how to file a lawsuit or sue someone.
My companies have a policy that if that happened it would be immediate termination. or I would take action on that manager. In your case that was not necessary.
Where's the connection between God and the fact that they just chose someone more suitable.

Life is full of knock backs, get used to it.
maybe because you CUSSED OUT the ceo? just an idea. i understand you were fed up but still. im really sorry this happened to you.
First of all, why would you quit your job for another job that has not even hired you yet?
Because you type too ******* much.
Because you could not control your temper. You brought it on yourself.
Buddha said: "Win some, Lose some."
Because you swore at the guy who decides you future.... dumbass. Does that clear things up for you?
I hope you are a troll
    you swore at him....wrong forum
There is an economic crunch. Employers are are always trying to keep employees in the wings waiting to take the places of people who quit suddenly or who are arrested off ship for drugs.

You may need to take anger management. You never cuss people out who are in charge of hiring you. It is a sure sign that you might lose it with a paying customer.

Sorry you missed your chance but there are other cruise lines and other resort areas that would probably hire you since you already had the talent to be considered for Disney.
We all share your shame - you should never assume that you have a job - unless you got an ironclad contract of employment! Of course, your outburst was the most unprofessional act of your young life - an life lesson to forever regret or NOT - there is no way to explain to you that your "chain was being pulled" and as Shakespeare put it: "Many's the slip between the hand and the lip!" You must just turn yourself around and start looking for another job - and although its bad to quit your last job, don't mention that stuff about Disney EVER again. It will not help you get another job, and as for quitting a viable job - you better come up with another scenario - like an emergency in your family that required that you leave town (and the company wouldn't give you a leave of absence) or some other plausible story - now the reason I tell you to Never mention the Disney fiasco - is that a potential employer would not be sympathetic about it! Its a funny story for a cocktail party - but that's it!
You have learned a terrible lesson, that is dont quit your current job till you are sure you have the other.Hurry and get another job and then sue the disnet company in small claims court for libal damages.sorry my som.hears a blessing and a our father prayed just for you. Practice the holy rosary, practice makes perfect. we love you all.the holy family.
You blew your top and you threatened them to sue. You have burned your bridges because you needed to be patient and wait. These big corporations take a very long time to make a decision and it was probably not the CEO's say so that you would be there right away. I am sure there is a huge chain of command.

You never quit your job till you know for sure you are hired.

It is a rule of thumb and I got burned on walking out of a job because they pressured me. Then I was without money for a very long time. I should have kept my mouth shut and sat down and bite the bullet.

So now you cannot blame God. He has nothing to do with it.

God says let Him fight your battles. No you were not right to curse him out. God never told you do such a thing. He would tell you to call that man up and apologize to him. That is if you are a committed Christian and walking in His Love.

You need to read the book Bait of Satan by John Bevere. It would enlighten you for the next time you feel like shouting at someone and you would learn to hold your tongue.

I feel badly for you, because your temper was the thing that killed the job. Satan loved it and got you fired.

Repent and ask the Lord to forgive you and ask Him to teach you how to hold your temper. Because that showed that you would not be good with kids.

The tongue is an unruly member and it can make or break a job or a relationship.

    ABOUT THE MOUTH

    Job 34:3

For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.

    James 3:3

3Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. 4Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. 5Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 6And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. 7For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 11Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? 12Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. 13Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. 14But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
Listen to Camille,Dusty and Maximus. First step toward maturity: stop blaming others, accept responsibility for your actions, clean your mouth, learn to apologize and never leave a job so early. They told you November and you quit in September?

    Maybe a lesson on humility.

Why do I want to End my Life?

This is going to be detailed, but if you can help me please do.

I am 28 years old and have a Bachelor of Arts degree from a Film School. I wanted to be a screenwriter, but have so far had only a handful of my projects made into short films, and none of them won any contests or were picked up. I live in Chicago and for some reason its hard as balls to get anything going with my film career. Despite what some may think, Chicago is only really theater based. Everyone else is very safe and very midwestern. Nothing ever happens here. I am comfortable though because I have a decent job that I walk to and so I don't feel the need to "go". My parents also live close by.

I don't have a relationship, don't want to get married %26amp; the job I have barely pays the rent. But no other jobs are hiring me despite my prestigious experience (I worked as a reporter for the Chicago Tribune, have been published %26amp; have 10 years of customer service experience, mainly working with children and giving tours at a museum).

I also just got hired to work on Disney Cruise Lines as a Entertainment Host, but they keep moving my start date up and as of now I won't be leaving till after Thanksgiving.

All of this is pretty depressing. No one will take me on as a writer. The comedy book I wrote that everyone SAID was funny is getting zero responses from lit agencies, and I have re-written my query letter dozens of times. Nothing. So I am giving up hope on life. I have wanted to work in the entertainment business all my life. I'm 30 years old damn near. It's coming to the point where all my friends are successful, have homes and families, and I still work at a job an 18 year-old fresh out of high school can get. Meanwhile I busted my *** in college and feel it was a waste of time. Why is this happening?

I want to kill myself and end it all. Perhaps there is nothing after death and it will all go black. How depressing. Perhaps I will be reborn. But I need someone to be REAL with me and tell me why I'm not succeeding at my craft. And why others I know are. I'm tired of volunteering on film sets and working for free. That's for high school students. I need to get paid. What the hell? Why do I want to End my Life?
Charles, something within you has called you to the art of screenwriting; unfortunately, it's no easy task.

You have great aspirations and your passion and obvious ability have caused you to expect too much of yourself; however, I do understand this - you've been working so hard for so long that even though it seems from your details that you're making progress, all you can see are your failings.

Here are some positives that I've got from your post:

    -You're well educated.

    -You're intelligent.

    -You're creative.

    -You're employed.

-You have plans for your future.

These things might not seem like everything you want or need in your life, but for now at least can you consider that you have enough? And think: what an interesting character you make! Maybe you can use this low for character analysis in the future. If you've reached the depths of despair, your understanding of the human condition can only be heightened, thus giving you an insight into creating more realistic characters and scenarios that your future readers/watchers will identify with.

Even if this doesn't answer your question, take heart from the knowledge that right now even though you're alone in your personal suffering, others are experiencing similar crises and know the frustrations of ambition unfulfilled...

PS can I please please please read your comedy book? www.facebook.com/carmen.tudor (friend me. I dare you.)
just keep at it bro, if you give up then what was it all for? if you keep going, who knows maybe you'll get it. Try to search for some famous people and showem your scripts. Keep positive. Why do I want to End my Life?
Well man I don't see anywhere that your sick with a terminal illness? Or where your homeless or even jobless. Honestly though I can see where your coming from but there is A LOT more people out there that had it MUCH worse. Just be patient and hapyness will find you. God bless

    Why can't I get a Reference Letter?

I just got an audition to work on Disney Cruise Lines, but one of the requirements for the interview is to bring 2 reference letters. Thinking this was going to be easy as pie, I approached several different bosses/colleagues of mine for letters. I cant believe what type of crap I'm getting:

    1) One person, the director of the company I work for now (as a Tour Guide), said she would be happy to write one, but that I should write it and then she'll re-word it a bit and sign it. Are you ******* kidding me? I'm not the one that's supposed to write these damn things, she is! Yes she's nice to offer, but I thought it was the job of the reference letter writer to do that. Why would she do this? I sent her my resume, what more does she need? It's a reference letter simply saying I'm good to be a Tour Guide at sea. What's so hard about that?

    2) One person said he would, and then never got back to me. What's up with that?

Please only answer if you can give me detailed responses- I'm not looking to get yelled at either, that seems to happen a lot on here! I'm frustrated because I thought it was easy to get reference letters. Why can't I get a Reference Letter?
Addressing Point One-- that is THE most irritating thing in the world, and unbelievably common. I have written just about every letter of rec I've ever "received" for the same reason (my writing style is pretty identifiable, making writing several difficult). It is, however, a great opportunity for you to codify what you believe to be your strengths. Write the letter, and then call the second person back and explain to them you're on a deadline.

Congrats on the job, and good luck!
    1. Hey, YOU are the one who wants the letter - if you really want it, do what she's asking you to. Maybe SHE doesn't have enough spare time to write it, so is asking YOU to do some of the work. Why is she "supposed to" ?

    2. He's probably busy AND/or forgot.Why can't I get a Reference Letter?
why do you believe that previous employer has to give you a reference letter? there is no law that say they have to, some employers do not like giving reference letters or any reference at all
Take the first offer. Write the letter and give it on a disk to the signer. People are busy or they would probably rather not write you a recommendation
as far as #1 is concerned:

if it is so easy, write the dam* letter yourself (as you were asked to do) and get it signed........

you are asking someone to take time out of their busy day to do you a favor, the least you should do is make this as simple as possible and do as asked.

you know what you want said....... who better to write a letter for YOU then YOU?

as far as #2 is concerned:

re-read the part of my first answer about their busy day...........

i am NOT yelling, but you seem to be, and you seem to be very impatient, writing a reference letter is NOT something that is required of a former employer, and being pushy, uncooperative, and demanding will only serve to move your letter down the "to-do" list.........

    Why Will NOBODY Hire Me?

Before judging me, please read my entire question!

My name is Gale Hubbard. I'm 30 years old, a college graduate and have recently resigned from a position aboard Disney Cruise Lines as an Entertainment Host. The job was just too stressful and overwhelming, and because I got cast for the Disney Dream, the new ship construction was daunting.

Currently I live at home with Mom and Dad. It sucks. I have my own room with cable and internet, but I can't bring men home to have sexual intercourse with because- well it would be awkward. So I keep myself busy by job hunting online, mostly through craigslist and employment agencies. My question- Why in God's name will no one hire me? I have a BA, I wrote for a National Newspaper as a journalist, I worked 4 years at a Museum as a Program Facilitator and also just did the Disney gig. What gives? And I apply for positions that are looking for writers! Please answer the following questions:

    1) Many are saying its the economy. That's bullshit. Because if that were the case, these companies wouldn't advertise they were hiring! They just wouldn't bother posting at all. Because they ARE, obviously a position exists. And stop saying we're in a recession. If were were, explain all the rich women I see downtown spending thousands of dollars on clothes, and explain all the men that brag about their high salaries and how they are lawyers and marketing pros living the life. It's horrendous how much this nation lies when so many people still have bank.

    2) Is my Subject lines in the emails to employers wrong? Many of the companies seeking entertainment journalists or writers ask for a cover letter. In the Subject of the email, I often write: "Former Chicago Tribune reporter wants to write for you!" Is this like not cool? In the cover I go over my time at the Trib, talk about all the stars I interviewed and the articles I published. Then I even copy and paste a few articles. NOTHING! I NEVER hear back from any of them. Its like I never even sent the email. It makes no sense! And don't tell me **** like "Well anyone can get published." Nu-uh! Its hard to be a published writer for a top paper sweetheart, NOT just anyone can write and do that.

    3) Why do even Employment agencies ignore my resume? The ones that try to place you? Its like THEYRE a job too- because I have had only 1 response so far from the 13 I emailed.

Please help! Why Will NOBODY Hire Me?
Actually, Logical Scholar makes a good point. He's referring to this:

"In the Subject of the email, I often write: "Former Chicago Tribune reporter wants to write for you!" Is this like not cool?"

And I agree with him. Let your resume speak for itself...no need to sound like a slimy salesperson. Professionalism is best. Your subject line should simply state that the email is about the advertised job position.

    1. Being in a recession doesn't mean that suddenly everyone is poor. The majority of the wealth is held by a minority of people...and when you have more money than you know what to do with, it's harder to become financially ruined. More than anything, the recession has accelerated the hollowing out of the middle class; the people who had enough money to have something to lose, but not so much that it's impossible to become poor. And people who were poor when the recession began are equally poor now. The unemployment rate is the US based on unemployment recipients is still 10% (which is high), but the true rate of unemployment when you include people who have used up their unemplyoment without being able to find a job is significantly higher. As a result, the number of applicants for each job that is publicly posted is very large, and many of them are just as qualified as you, if not better.

    2. As I said above, you're taking "sell yourself" a bit too far. It sounds like you're bragging, and that puts a bad taste in peoples' mouths. Be professional instead. Use your cover letter/email body to explain the better points of your relevant experience, why you want the job, why you you're a good for for the company, etc. Doing research on the company ahead of time can go a long way, both in the cover letter and interview. Knowing things about the company shows your dedication.

    3. Employment agencies suck. If you can avoid them, do so. They get swamped with emails and letters even worse than companies who post their own ads do, and it's just not possible to deal with everyone, so they don't. I've heard of both agencies and certain companies either drawing email applicants lottery style, or just tossing out a big portion to cull the pile, or even ignoring email altogether. Email creates far more volume than they can handle, and since qualified applicants are rarely in short supply, they really lose nothing by eliminating applicants like that.

If at all possible, don't use email. At least not at first. Good old phone calls, if only to ask if you can submit your resume in person, can be more effective; it means that at the very least someone will know your name.
i, like you am also looking for a job. although i'm 18 its no different. I've been trying to get a simple retail or clerk or assistant job for almost 3 years now. since i was 15 i searched for jobs? why they wont except certain people i truly have no idea. we look good on paper, out appearance is also good... and yet they don't want you. im astounded myself. if you find the answer to this inform me please. i feel like if someone magical just walks in and they KNOW that they want to hire themWhy Will NOBODY Hire Me?
First of all, I have to say that if the employer somehow knows of the attitude you are showing here, that's a good reason not to hire you. It's not professional, and I'm wondering if this is even a joke... like why would you write this and use your real name?! When employers have a choice, they will look for reasons to weed you out of the resume pile. Swearing, talking about your sex life, quitting because you can't deal with the stress, complaining, especially all together are great reasons for them to look elsewhere.

Assuming this is real, then here's the rest of it. If agencies and CL are not working, then you need to use other means such as networking. Make a list of everyone you think can help you find a job and let them know you are looking. Keep track of when you contact them and the content of the conversation. If you promised them a resume, then make sure you send it right away. If you think you can handle it, ask a couple of people you trust for their feedback on what areas they think you can improve on. DON'T defend yourself. If more than 1 says the same thing, it may be true, so make improvements. I rarely recommend people for openings because I expect them to work as hard as I do, and many of them won't. My reputation is on the line from the moment they submit a resume (your bad resume makes me look bad) and through their career (your embarassing mistake you made in your 11th year in the company is a reflection on me). I'm not saying that's a correct assumption, but that's my take on it.

Get a couple of friends to review your resume and take their feedback. Regarding the subject line, I don't think they are ignoring you because of yoru subject line. The bottom line is that the content of your resume is where you should spend your time. I'm kind of formal, so the subject line I appreciate would be something that tells me why you're emailing me (the purpose of the subject line), so something like "Resume for Technical Writer Opening" would be good, but if the "writing" industry requires creativity, then perhaps what you're doing is better... but you're claiming it's not working... so you may want to be open to something else.

You can call up the agencies to inquire about your application. After all, they are in the business of helping people find work because that's how they get paid. However, with agencies and employers, don't bother them. My co-worker is dealing with an aggressive candidate... the bottom line is if we have a job for you, we will call you. You don't need to call us.

Finding work is a full time job.
trying to not get to sick from your line about not being able to have sex in your parents house..

you and how many other people are trying for the same job..? someone has to NOT get hired and it just happens to be you..

Why Can't I get a JOB with All my Qualifications?

Before judging, please read my entire question.

I just turned 30 and am currently living at my parent's house- Thank you- because I quit a job as an Entertainment Host aboard Disney Cruise Lines because it was awful, and very overwhelming. Now I'm stuck with no job. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree and I also have over 10 years of customer service experience, including 4 years working as a Corporate Facilitator Tour Guide at a world famous museum, and also was a Journalist Reporter at a very famous Newspaper company in Chicago (the Tribune, there I said it!)

For some reason though, all of these criteria and qualifications just isn't impressing employment agencies. I've been rejected everywhere I go. I got a phone call from one place downtown that said they wanted me to interview to be a tour guide with their company. Great, I thought. Then they say its only $8.25 an hour!!! That's ******* minimum wage! I have a college degree and tons of experience. I told them in a nice way I was not interested.

I was declined to be a flight attendant. I was declined to be a Teacher's Assistant at a University. I was even declined, get this, to be a WRITER for a company even though I have a degree from a arts school and was a WRITER for a top paper! Like what the ****?

Sorry to rant, but it makes absolutely no sense to me that employers are turning their backs to me. I worked for Disney for Christ's sake! I interview so well, and the only reason I'm coming off upset is because I AM ******* upset! And what's with the lousy pay people are offering me? A college graduate needs a salary, not an hourly wage. This is not right. Any ideas or reasons why this is happening?

PS - I know this is the Religious section, but you all are always so great at giving advice. Why Can't I get a JOB with All my Qualifications?
Your first mistake was leaving a job you had because it was awful, and very overwhelming, BEFORE you had another lined up. Suddenly, I'm sure it doesn't seem to bad. I am not criticizing you.

The job market is bad right now and employers know that they can be as selective as they want to be, because they have a HUGE pool to pick from.

You say a college graduate needs a salary, not an hourly wage. Apparently, you have not hit an uncomfortable low as of yet. I hope you don't and things turn around. Good luck with this hard lesson learned.

*You may also be seen as a threat to the person who makes hiring decisions. Overqualified.
Gale, the reason you don't have a job isn't because of you. It's because there aren't any jobs to be had. Period. My son has two master's degrees, is a licensed counselor, has been a CEO, and he is trying to work in construction (with no luck, because the illegal aliens will work for $5.00 an hour). He has four little children, and is desperate. I have a doctoral degree, am a licensed counselor, and I have applied at every agency in the D/FW area. I am "too qualified" to get a job. They want someone with no experience they can pay a pittance to. There are literally millions of people in America right now who have no job and no prospects of getting one. I'm sorry you gave up your job at Disney, because even though you thought it was "awful", it may have been the last one you will have for a long time. The economy is not getting better, despite what politicians are telling people. With the taxes that will be imposed this year, salaries being cut, jobs being eliminated, etc., we as a country are in dire trouble. You might think about trying to get a grant and starting your own company of some kind. Try something unique that not many people (if anyone) has marketed before. I'm putting up a website and offering "affordable counseling services" to people that will be cheaper than their ordinary co-pay though their insurance company. If I can get enough clients, I can pay my bills each month. I hope something turns up for you.Why Can't I get a JOB with All my Qualifications?
Honestly Gail, you are a writer, so why not write? JK Rowling was a single mother living on welfare when she wrote Harry Potter. If trying to find a job as a journalist or whatever is not working out right now, then why not look for an alternative, kiddo? There are worse things -- as you discovered working the cruise ships. Don't get discouraged - 30 is the new 20, you have just started out in life so no need to fret. If my kids are still living with me when they are in their 30s it will not be a surprise. The world is not the same as it was for your parents or their parents and the extended family household was actually normal for most of the last several thousand years. It is only in the last 50 years following WWII that people have had this strange idea that "family" meant just two parents and a kid.
My best guess is economic problems. My dad recently lost his job of 16 years, completely out of the blue, because the company was trying to cut their budget down. I know a lot of states have severely cut the budget for education, so that may explain your not getting the TA job. Tons of businesses are cutting jobs left %26amp; right, so there's not a lot of hiring going on. :/
You have the smarts, you said it your self, but you do not belive in your self. No job, creat one use that ablity inside you. Living at home perfect mom and dad you will do them proud, look into goverment grants. Look around for a old building and trun it into a home for youth to live with out jobs , use one floor for retraining. looking in quality control, testing computer parts. Once little co. were growing all around our country then all work went to China, time to bring a little our way again. Look at old building that has lost their co. and see what you can buy on a hud program. Make job, and give others the blessing of how smart you are, and the use the blessing of living at home to help others. Share all with mom and day they must love you, they gave you a good start and are still there for you. And do all with G-D in your hand and lose the ego, do well.

A grant writter, you could do a lot of good in our world, pray and draw close to G-D, I will pray for the good you bring into the world. love all your gifts, and thank G-D for them. when you read my english and spelling you will realy see how blessed you are.
The fact is you aren't having trouble finding a job, you are having trouble finding a job you want or making the amount of money you want. Welcome to America. The reason this is happening is because of the world economy. Since it is cheaper for a company to have things built in china and shipped back here, we lose jobs. Then eployers complain it costs too much to hire anyone so we let illegal immigrants in so employers don't have to pay too much in wages. If we keep sending all the jobs overseas that doesn't leave many good jobs here for the rest of us. If you want to make any money you'll have to start your own company or work crappy jobs the rest of your life because I don't see things changing. All that matters is the bottom line. Like here in my state they just had a big fuss because they went with a canadian company for a job because they save 10% on the cost. The bottom line might look good but what if they used a company that was within the state, they'd make money off taxing the company, taxing the employees, plus there would be more money in the economy of my state and more things would be bought which they'd get more sales tax. So by saving 10% it probably cost them 30% more. Only the bottom line matters not the big picture.
Probably because of your degree. Some reason you are more likely to be hired if you are a college drop out.

Being a writer for a top paper doesn't mean much, I've had numerous articles in national and international papers. it isn't that difficult. When I worked at Target, most of the supervisor and managers had no degree, while the people stocking the shelves overnight typically had bachelors degrees.
This is not the world of your parents anymore. And this is not China or Korea or Japan with a nanny state attitude. You don't have a right to work. In a global world where there are 3 billion Indians and Chinese who are perfectly happy to do your job better than you for 25% of the money, you are not inherently valuable to society. You have to find a way.

That means no more factory drudgery on a time card. And that means no more corporate whoring.

And working for Disney cruise lines, and probably all the companies you have been applying to, are soul sucking life wasters anyway. Time to grow up. Instead of letting somebody boss you around for pennies, why don't you figure out what would be a good way to use the life you have been given and really live. I know what those cruise lines are. They are time wasters. Guess what? The time is now. Live your life. Find YOUR way.

Here are some books that might get some of your mental juices flowing and thinking about what you might like to do, and how to do it.

You know what? With all those crappy jobs being gone, it's an amazing opportunity for all of us, because we have the chance to shape the life we live, instead of having to fit ourselves into a box. Getting offered minimum wage for a crappy job is the best thing that ever happened to you, if it makes you realize what a waste of time it would be.

Enjoy your life! It's about to get a whole lot more fulfilling, exciting, meaningful, and worthwhile.
Disney is the unattainable goal of many art students; that you were hired by them speaks much for your talent. Customer service is being severely cut by shortsighted managers who plan to jump ship when the economy improves; they have no care for the reputation of the company.

There are careers that pay well that do not require college, but which college gives you a competitive advantage. Sales. Art. Used cars. Pharmaceuticals. Look into it.

Look into teaching art in Kuwait, that should help you build up your savings to have time to look for a real job.
We live in a vexing time. Honest advice... If you can afford to take the time and go back to school, find a medical specialty you could enjoy. With your qualifications you could probably get a degree in Hospital Administration and have a great career. One thing to remember. People have to eat (Grocery business) and people are going to get sick (Hospital business). Less savory is the idea that people are going to die. Mortuary industry. Other than that, you then have to think about digging way into your own skills and intelligence and come up with an entrepreneurial idea so you can create and run your own business.
