I got a call a week ago from Delta Airlines to interview for their Flight Attendant position. If I was good enough for a second interview, they would fly me to Atlanta. Well I figured with all my experience, I would be a shoo-in. Not only do I have a Bachelor of Arts degree, I ALSO have over 4 years experience as a Facilitator Tour Guide at a world famous museum, and performed for Disney Cruise Lines. I have a **** ton of experience working with the public. And on the latter, I was professionally trained in safety, and even earned a certificate.
The lady who interviewed me on the phone appeared unimpressed as I rattled off these accomplishments, and remained poker toned. I was then asked numerous questions about how I would react in certain situations. One of the questions was "What do you do if a guest asks to go to the bathroom but the pilot has the fasten seat belt lit?" I simply said "Well I would calmly tell them they couldn't due to safety regulations, but if they needed further assistance I would see what I could do." Like, WHAT THE **** else was I suppose to say? When asked about how I handled safety in my past job, I glorified the response with how I was a Traffic Controller aboard the now 5th biggest Cruise Ship in the world (Disney Dream), and had to escort guests to their lifeboats.
Apparently this just wasn't good enough for lame Delta Airlines, because three days later I got an email telling me unfortunately I did not pass the interview and they had no position for me at this time. Bullshit! Something is up? Can someone please tell me what I did wrong or if my resume just wasn't doing it? Are they expecting people with Masters Degrees and more then 10 years customer experience? I mean I've been working with the public since I was 18- and I'm almost 29 now. What gives?
And I have so far received a lot of rude responders, telling me I came off to arrogant and wasn't a team player! I TOLD The lady that was my specialty! Being a team player. And since when does listing off your accomplishments make you suddenly a cocky jerk? Confidence should never be looked down upon. What were they looking for dumb blonde sturdass types barely out of high school? I mean what would have been so difficult as to just fly me to Atlanta and meet me in person? Can I call Delta and demand to be reinterviewed? The lady that talked to me just seemed dull and not interested in me at all. I've had better conversations with Comcast customer service agents than this old hag. Please, Only respond if you can give me Real answers! Why Didn't Delta Airlines HIRE Me?
No you should not call Delta and demand another interview.
Just because you have the experience that you have doesn't mean you are a shoe in for any job. For what ever reason you didn't get the job.
At least you got an email to let you know so you didn't have your hopes up.
I've had a 2nd interview and was so sure they were going to hire me and fly me to Utah for training because both interviewers were really taken with me and praised me before I left and told me I was their number one choice. Ask me what kind of vehicle I would prefer, could I be ready to go on Monday, what kind of attire to pack for the trip etc. etc... I went out and bought some new clothes for the job and Never got a call back, email or a refusal letter. Sometimes the answer is just "NO" or nothing at all. Yes it is unprofessional but sometimes you just have to get past the disappointment and move on.
Luckily you have many other options to choose from in the airline industry so if one tells you no find one that will tell you yes.
You can come across as confident but from what you wrote it does sound a bit cocky. Tone down just a little you don't have to go over all your accomplishments because it is probably already in your resume.
They don't owe you a job just because they contacted you.
Sometimes its just a matter of getting enough interviews and I've had a woman like you had. Trust me it is very hard to have an interview with someone who has the personality of a wet wash rag but you just have to puddle through. A nice tone and trying to get a few pleasantries in there can help break the ice a bit.
Don't worry so much just get in there and find a job with another airlines. You'll do fine! Good luck
try some other airline..i say **** delta....Why Didn't Delta Airlines HIRE Me?
You're better off not working for Delta. I'd apply somewhere else. I'm sorry you didn't get the interview and I wish you better luck next time.
Is there another stewardess you can practice your interviewing skills with that could help you and give you tips on giving a better interview? This might help you. Even the most qualified people can sometimes struggle with interviewing. Take care!
