Would Disney Cruise Lines be the best first cruise for us?

We are a couple (38 and 40) with no children. We read lots of bad reviews about the other cruise lines, but rarely do we see bad reviews about Disney. My aunt and uncle (late 50s) also never had children and they have sailed on Disney three times and love it. The impression I get is that perhaps the child programs and adult programs are very much separated from one another on the Disney ships than on the other ships. What do you think?Would Disney Cruise Lines be the best first cruise for us?
There is a first time for everything but with a Disney cruise you should expect a lot of children. Do you like children and can you tolerate them? The other concern with Disney is the price. For that price you could take a much better cruise in a better cabin possibly with a better itinerary for cheaper. It just depends on the cruise line...

You should look at your travel dates and consider the itinerary first. Royal Caribbean is a good line along with Celebrity. Celebrity is a great cruise line and it caters to more of an upscale crowd, the service, the rooms, the amenities, and everything else are outstanding. Princess is also good, but it caters to a more older crowd along with Holland America. Though Princess does amazing Alaska cruises. NCL might be a line to try however it's hit or miss.

And the thing about complaints on cruise lines, you have to evaluate each person's story for what its worth. Some just like complaining while others have valid points. You can't let other people stories and or reviews dictate your decisions in life especially on a cruise.

I would definitely avoid Carnival, MSC, and Costa. I've cruised all of those and while I had a great cruise I wouldn't go back unless I could get a great deal. I've had better on other cruise lines. I would definitely recommend Celebrity, as it's one of the best cruise lines I've been on.
I have heard only good things about Disney, but I must say that any reviews about the other cruise companies, you have to take with a grain of salt. A lot more people cruise with Carnival, Princess, Royal Caribbean, and Holland America then with Disney because they have a lot more ships. The more ships, the more people do reviews and the more complaints. I have cruised 10 times with Princess and never had a bad cruise, bad food, bad service, or anything going wrong at all. So do take that into consideration too. BTW, I have never had kids running around or behaving badly, except playing with the elevators on a Princess cruise. They also keep the kids pretty much separate from the adults on most activities.Would Disney Cruise Lines be the best first cruise for us?
Yes, the Disney ship separates children from adults. They encourage it.

However, Disney ships are lower on the quality level than other cruises, and they do attract more families than other cruise lines.

Try Princess. I am a Platinum member of their line. It's is, in my opinion, the best. You are treated like a star and I have even been on board when a stomach bug found us (the cruise ship nightmare you read about in the papers sometimes). Princess attacked at a level I don't even think a hospital could match. No one from my entire party got sick, everything was constantly cleaned (A guy who follow you down the stairs and wipe the hand rail after everyone even, it was really amazing), and the cruise went on as if nothing was wrong.

I have taken a couple of other lines before, I the biggest problems I've found are...

1. Overcrowding (*clears throat* Royal Caribbean...)

2. Messy or unclean

3. Not very elegant or pampering to customers

Hope this helps :)
Well depends,if you two are more like having fun, partying type couple then you might like Disney. But if you are the laying back, relaxing vacation type I recommend Celebrity or Princess cruises. On Disney, they do have more kid-ish stuff and it's more family oriented(its very casual). But on smaller cruise lines like Celebrity and Princess,it's more elegant, more individual attention(don't forget EXPENSIVE).
My first cruise was Disney, and I loved it. I highly reccommend it. :)
Like you, my wife and I went on a Disney's Mediterranean cruise as our first cruise (celebrated our anniversary and kept a promise I made 25+ years ago).

Disney has a great programs for each age group. I was very impressed with their organization, service, food, and programs. Key things to note that on Disney Magic leaving Barcelona, Spain were:

1. Standard Rooms have 2 half baths, one bathroom has a shower/sink while the other has the toilet and a separate sink. This made getting ready in the morning much easier.

2. Standard Rooms are a little larger than other comparable lines (bigger sitting area).

3. No Casino.

I've been on the larger Princess Ships (Crown in Northern Europe/Baltics) and Celebrity ships (Equinox to Eastern Mediterranean/Israel/Egypt). I have to say the I was impressed with Princess and Celebrity's entertainment and in particular I preferred Celebrity No Smoking/Restricted Smoking over all other cruise lines).

Key is the itinerary....what do you want to do for shore excursions. Here, Disney matched or exceeded what the other cruise lines had and the overall atmosphere was "happpy".

Disney Cruises is not just for families. We met a large variety of couples and singles on the cruise. What they told us we later found to be true....Disney does a wonderful job to make your trip enjoyable.
