I worked on Disney Cruise Lines as a Performer in Youth Activities for 5 weeks. I resigned because of mental exhaustion- the company wanted me to learn over 20 scripts in under a month, whilst learning my way around the new Disney Dream ship. I loved the programs but felt senile due to the amount of expectations and workload flung upon me. I am a very experienced artist with a BA in Film and a passion for acting and writing. But this wasn't for me. On top of it, the management was very unorganized.
I lived with my parents for 3 months, as they were nice enough to let me stay rent free until I found a new job. Despite not liking Disney, I still liked the idea of saving money while at sea. So I applied for dozens of other cruise companies. Finally Norwegian Cruise Line hired me, and I am due to work for them as a Youth Programs Counselor next month. The pay is less but so is the workload (according to my Director). I only have to share a room with 1 other person. And the hours are less. The excursions are quite nice- Alaska, Eastern and Western coasts from Los Angeles to Seattle and Vancouver, the Panama Canal and Carribean waters. I'll be on the Pearl, allegedly a nice ship.
My question is this- is NCL a good company to work for? Mind you I will be in Youth Programs, so I'm not a dining room attendant or crew worker (I saw how tough they had it on Disney). I am more interested about the time I will have off- will I have time to see the sites? Are they a lot of kids aboard NCL compared to Disney or Carnival? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Is Norwegian Cruise Lines a good company to work for?
see if NCL has ratings from employees on www.glassdoor.com a site that rates employers.
As a young guy, you can stand anything for 10 months. It would be good experience. You mayhave to wirk hard, but the benfits of seeing the sights would be super.
Work is hard on all the major cruise lines. The pay isnt great and you work seven days a week. I'd say give it a shot and just resign again if it isnt for you. If it doesnt work this time, you know that sea work isnt your cup of tea. Good luck, my friend! Is Norwegian Cruise Lines a good company to work for?
I doubt that working on a cruise ship is for you.
You complain about everything what comes with working onboard a cruise ship (either on Disney or on NCL)
How can you complain about the itinerary of NCL, when Disney has one itinery they go!!!!!
You know, they keep people close to their home country, if they are not sure if they will fullfil the contract - so disembarking will not be such a hassle.
Compare to Disney, there are less kids onboard on NCL - as for seeing the sites.....you claim you worked on a cruise ship already, so you know the drill....
